Commonplace: GARLIC BREAD

My dear dear friends, garlic bread can be very nice but….it’s not Italian. We don’t have it! In Italy you won’t find it.

I noticed it’s very often offered together with pasta in many Italian restaurants abroad. It’s always present in Pizza Hut buffet. In Italy this would never happen because it’s a food we don’t have here.

I guess this idea about garlic bread as typical Italian dish, is linked to the other commonplace, that is to say the fact that people think that Italians eat garlic galore, from breakfast until they go to sleep.  “Are we preparing some Italian food? We need at least 20 cloves….”
Do you remember my post about garlic?

I must tell you that I saw and tasted garlic bread the first time when I travelled to Canada. Here in Italy it’s an unknown dish. Now we’ve learned what it is thanks to American TV shows broadcasted here. I need to confess that it’s good but I don’t like it that much. As many Italians of Italy would say, it tastes too much garlic! We are not into it so much.
